Visual Guide to Interactive Report ClearCache Syntax #JoelKallmanDay

This blog was created for #JoelKallmanDay

I've read the documentation many times, but I don't full understand it without a worked example.

I’ll post the documentation here anyway, but I recommend you skip on to the next section.

Use the following syntax in the ClearCache section of the URL to reset, clear, or reset pagination the interactive report:

  • RR - Resets an interactive report and pagination. This is equivalent to the end user choosing the Reset option from the interactive report Actions menu on the target page. The report is returned to the default report settings specified by the developer or saved by the user.

  • CR - Clears interactive report and resets pagination. This clears all of the session report settings such as control break, aggregate, flashback, chart, number of rows to display, filter, highlight, computation, group by, and pivot.

  • RP - Resets interactive report pagination.

You skipped? excellent!

Lets start with an example. We’ll use this example before every Reset attempt.

Here we see:

  • Its a Saved Report called Secondary

  • It has a saved Filter contains A

  • I’m on page 2 (rows 6-10)

In addition, I have manually added my own filter that is not saved in the report

  • It has a saved Filter contains 198

Reset Regions (RR)

Let’s use a URL with Reset Regions (yes, APEX doesn’t call it Reset Report). Here is what happens:

Result is:

  • Pagination Reset

  • Manual Filters Removed

Its done what the documentation said it would, its the equivalent of Resetting the Report.

Let’s go back to our starting position and try the next one.

Clear Regions (CR)

Let’s use a URL with Clear Regions (yes, APEX doesn’t call it Clear Report). Here is what happens:

Result is:

  • Pagination Reset

  • Rows per page Reset

  • Manual Filter 198 Removed

  • Saved Filter A Removed

It basically clears everything* to do with the IR settings and has regressed back to default IR settings.

At this point I can use the RR or the Reset Option to restore my report named Secondary.

*I noticed that if I rearranged the Columns, it didn’t clear the Column Order. Did I find a bug? - I think I did.

Whilst we are talking about Bugs, the documentation says it clears of all session report settings. This is clearly not true, as saved settings are also removed.

Let’s go back to our starting position and try the next one.

Reset Pagination (RP)

Let’s use a URL with Reset Pagination. Here is what happens:

Result is:

  • Pagination Reset

It does what it says on the tin. Everything else is preserved.

TL;DR Give me a table

I gotcha

Reset MethodResets Pagination
Reset Regions (RR)Resets to Saved ReportYes
Clear Regions (CR)Tear-down of all Saved & Session settings to Default IR settingsYes
Reset Pagination (RP)N/AYes

ENJOY!
